Breakfast. That’s where it should all begin.  With thanks to the National School Breakfast Programme and their mission, ‘To reach your dreams, start with Breakfast’ some of our wonderful students have been putting this to the test.

The young people in our care deserve the best experiences that we can offer. Our purpose at GAA is to metamorphosise the life chances of the young people in the community we serve.

This begins with a free healthy breakfast at the start of the school day. Our Gateway students start the day with a breakfast bagel and juice.  This has been a game changer for some of our most vulnerable and in need students both in years 7 and 8 here at GAA.

Already for many the students that have been enjoying their free breakfast bagel and juice, there has been a positive impact on attendance, punctuality, and a noticeable impact on behaviour for the start of the day.

Morale has certainly been a lot higher during form time too. Students are taking comfort in the calm simplicity that sharing breakfast time can bring. Our students have demonstrated clear routines, they take it in turn in serving breakfast to one and other.  They have also been learning skills and etiquette, that sharing collective dining experiences bring.  A time to be together, to eat and to share our thoughts. To make clear our aims for the day.   After Easter our students will receive a Breakfast Ambassador badge when they have participated and served breakfast to their peers in their form.  This is all part of embracing and participating in our core GREAT Values and celebratory culture.

Breakfast time is important, and we are glad that some of our wonderful students have been given the chance to experience this and to share it together.
